We’ve enjoyed meeting fellow young professionals at our monthly social events throughout last year. From wine bars to hikes, we’ve had a lot of fun! The social events have also been a great way to network, generate interest in the group, gather ideas and develop a following.
As we start 2017, we’d like to take the group even further. We’ll continue to have social events, but in an effort to highlight the “professional” aspect of the group, we’re excited to launch PEPtalks featuring Parma’s Extraordinary People. Periodically, we’ll feature a local business talent, community organization or city official to share their experiences. Attendees are free to ask questions and engage directly with the talented men and women who make Parma a great community.
“We want to start offering events and programs that provide professional development and educational aspects—not just social,” explained YP of Parma President Jackie Baraona. “We decided on two types of programming to offer value to our members: programs that spotlight interesting people, and programs that spotlight interesting topics. So the PEPtalks speaker series was born. The idea is to feature different exceptional people in the Parma area.”
The events will begin with a short social hour at 6:30pm. The speaker will begin about 7:15pm and will stick around for a short social/networking hour afterward. The events will include free appetizers and drinks for purchase, similar to all our social events.
We’re excited to host our first PEPtalks event on Monday February 20 with Jakob Hamlescher from West Creek Conservancy, a great local organization whose conservation and restoration efforts are making a huge impact in Parma and beyond. Come for a look at what West Creek has been up too and future projects including the Greenway Master Plan, a 26 mile plan that includes trail throughout most of Parma.
“I think it will be very worthwhile and interesting for our guests to get a behind-the-scenes look into the organization and some of these projects,” Jackie said. “They are also going to cover some environmental education aspects that will be relevant to young professionals.”
The event will take place at RAXX – “Burgers, Brews & Cues” on Pearl Road. Formerly the site of the Blue Moose and Local Tavern, RAXX features a full menu, pool tables and a Tiki Bar when it’s nice enough to be on the patio!
